New Mazda6
The new Mazda6 was designed with a focus on improving the emotional connection between the car and the driver, while also improving refinement and driving the model upmarket. The new design has a sportier and more aggressive appearance, particularly the front end which now bears a resemblance to the RX-8.
Mazda6 is again offered in three body styles: hatchback, saloon and estate with the five-door most representative of the sporty nature thanks to its coupe-like silhouette. The saloon has a high tail to give a fastback look similar to the 5-door. Although the new Mazda6 is slightly larger than its predecessor, the weight has been reduced by up to 35 kilograms (approx. 77 lbs) depending on the trim and equipment level.
Inside the Mazda6 continues the sporty theme with a snug, cockpit, clear instruments and intuitive controls. Curved surfaces are used to create a high qualify feel with textured paint, upscale materials and less glossy surfaces.
Mazda says the steering, handling and driving dynamics are more responsive and “increase the emotional connection for the driver”. Suspension modifications were made to improve ride comfort, reduce road noise and improve handling. Electric power steering replaces the hydraulic system to increase stability at high speeds.and larger brakes improve stopping performance.
A new 170-hp, 2.5-litre petrol engine is developed from the previous 2.3-litre version for improved torque Other engine choices are 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines and the MZR-CD 2.0-litre turbodiesel.
