Decked out with large television screens and bright lights, the MINI Clubman made its world debut by driving out onto the catwalk like a model at a fashion show. Three versions of the Clubman drove up and down the runway before settling onto a turntable: the Cooper D Clubman and Cooper S Clubman and the MINI Clubman.

Shown as a concept just two years ago in Frankfurt, the MINI Cooper Clubman has the “shooting brake” look that combines elements of a coupe and a hatchback. The stretched roofline extends the Clubman’s body length to 13 feet (3.96 m), just 10 inches (25 cm) longer than the regular MINI.

The extra length gives the five-passenger Clubman more interior room and it can add nearly 35 cubic feet (0.99 cubic metres) of luggage space by folding down the rear seat. Loading and unloading can be done through split doors at the rear and the “club door” on the passenger side makes getting in and out of the rear seats less of a chore, with the rear door opening backwards from the centre of the car.

The MINI Clubman will be available with three engine choices: a 110-hp 1.6-litre turbodiesel four cylinder, 120-hp 1.6-litre four cylinder and 175-hp 1.6-litre turbocharged four cylinder.

The new second-generation MINIs come with more efficient engines offering lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The most-efficient performer is the MINI Cooper D Clubman at 4.1 litres/100 km (69 mpg) and CO2 emissions are reduced to 109 g/km.

To keep the go-kart feeling of a MINI, new chassis technology has been specifically geared to the Clubman. It comes with anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, Cornering Brake Control, Brake Assistant, Dynamic Stability with hill start-up assistance and a limited-slip differential as an option for the Cooper S Clubman.

A wide range of customization options is available for the interior and exterior and more than 40 different colour combinations can be selected. The MINI Clubman is expected to reach the markets in Germany on November 10 this year.
